Meet the two dogs of Myella Farm Stay

To have a good dog and all the visitors is a challenge.  Carl and I (Lyn) went to party at the neighbours farm.  There were all these puppies lining up to say hello to Carl.  Giving him their puppy dog eyes.

"No", I said it doesn't work having a pup and guests they will spoil him.  We'd be better with an old dog that needs to be rescued or a work dog that is already trained."

By the end of the evening there was had two very happy neighbours and one elated Carl as we had one pup and an 8 year old dog coming home with us. 

This picture is of Carl and Shadow the pup that chose him.  She asked for his attention, sat with him.  She then left to go and pee and returned and he's been in love with her ever since. 

​Two for the price of one that night.  One man (Carl) got his dog (Shadow) who he has trained into a great little "work dog" despite all the guests.  And Jose the older rescue dog also came as the "holiday dog" loves his new life as he doesn't have to work just hang around and be happy.   

My school friends and I are turning 50 this year.  It's a great time to reflect and reminisce on the days in the old school yard. 

Boarding school was and still is widely used by farming families as the distance to high school education regards us as "isolated."  So as teenagers we leave our little farming communities to continue with our schooling.

Now using social media to find each other I'm amazed to hear how many of us farm girls from Rockhampton Girls Grammar School returned to our roots. You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.

At boarding school we became a family, then we left and applied ourselves to the world around us and built our own families. 

I was told that in 1988 when our senior class graduated we were part of a record number of Australian students to ever complete year 12.   Good on us!

I look forward to catching up with my mates again as we reach our 50th birthdays.  I was only at boarding school for my two senior years but find that the RGGS school song is embedded in my memory.  In 7 years we may have the answer.

"What are we working for here at our lessons, why join together in book, law and play.  Forty years on will be answered these questions of what we were like in our work and our play.  Do your best.  Not only for school but for life we are learning."  

Ahh and they didn't think I was listening!
