What's It Like Volunteering Here?

Sean
Sean's volunteer role was to help with stock take of electrical equipment and he cleaned all 30 of our horse riding saddles

"I enjoyed every bit of it.  It was awesome to be able to have an opportunity to help local Aussie's on their farm and see what it's like to be on a cattle farm on oz.  The accommodation and food was great and the work was fun and rewarding!  I enjoyed getting to know you guys and the area.  I personally think it is a better experience than just staying one night because you get to have an opportunity to get to know each other and learn hands on about cattle farming. Hope we can stay in touch! :)

Laura and Frazer
Their volunteer role was to hang the Christmas decorations in the outdoor dining area.  Yes sounds ROMANTIC however, the tough part of the job was to clean the ceiling first and it was dirty with lots of spiderwebs, dust and grime.  They also helped with some IT training for Lyn

“We stayed with Lyn, Carl and Olive for 5 days, but would have loved to extend our stay if we had had more time.  We felt very welcome from the start, and had a clear job that we could execute independently, only interrupted by the odd kangaroo or galah hopping by  :)   Lyn and Carl included us in many of the farm activities which was a lot of fun and very interesting- and we loved our day of horse riding and doing the farm tour.  Myella is a beautiful place with so many opportunities for walks, runs and drives - you definitely won’t regret settling down here for a while!”

Joc and Din
This couple washed all our vehicles, then during the day we would take them to assist with other jobs.  Din helped with water pipes in the dams and in the office and Joc helped in the dining area

"The experience at Myella Farmstay was wonderful !  When we planed our travel around the world we wanted to have lot of experiences and contact with the local people and not with only people who works with tourist.  Although the Farmstay hosts tourists it has a really good team and family. We spend a few days here we felt like part of the family.  We really spend a good time in this special place in Australia, and we think it's the best memory of human relationship of our trip !"

Scott and Alana - Stayed 6 weeks
This couple did a bit of everything.  Their primary role was to wash the windows (there are approx 60 windows!).  We also utilised Alana's hotel management skills and Scott was a good all rounder.  At the end of every week we checked in with each other to ensure the arrangement was still working for all parties.  They stayed in a comfortable double room with an ensuite, air conditioning, fridge and TV.

Unpaid Volunteer Work

You are welcome to stay and volunteer to clean an area of our farm.  The work could be inside for example cleaning the shelves and benches in the kitchen or outside like cleaning the shed, gardening or collecting fire wood.  You will also be asked to disinfect the tables after meals.

In return for your work we will supply:
  • ALL MEALS
  • 4x NIGHTS ACCOMMODATION in your own air-conditioned room
  • 1x HORSE RIDE TOUR
  • 1x FARM EXPERIENCES TOUR
At the end of 4 days we discuss if you would like to stay and volunteer for longer or if you wish to continue on your travels.

Other than cleaning, Lyn needs help in the office where her ideas exceed her ability on many projects.
